Position Title: Digital Archivist
Location: Whitehorse, Yukon Territory
Type: Full-time, Indeterminate
The following essential qualifications are required for this position: Master’s degree in archival studies or library and information science with a specialty in archives, or a masters or bachelor’s degree in history, political science or other social sciences or related field with several years of experience working in an archives; experience applying the theory and practice of archival and records management principles with a focus on the management of electronic records; experience working with and managing digital preservation related software combined with detailed knowledge of computer systems, network architecture, programming, and database / repository management systems.
Additional desired knowledge, skills, and suitability include the following:
Excellent written and oral communication skills; Strong research and information gathering skills along with strong analytical and problem solving skills applied in an information management environment; familiarity with digital curation and preservation theory, issues, strategies, tools and best practices; in-depth knowledge of current internationally-recognized models and standards for the preservation of digital information including the Open Archival Information System and ISO 16363; knowledge of metadata schemas and preservation file formats, and associated tools and workflows; knowledge of electronic records management policies, standards, procedures, techniques and best practices; and strong organizational skills and detail oriented with a high level of accuracy; and the ability to work effectively alone or in a team environment, and alongside donors and record creators.
